Sweet Tomatoes opened in Newton Centre in December 1998. The groovy pizzeria was a great addition to the Centre serving not your typical pizza. Sweet Tomatoes has been booming ever since owner Hedy Jarras opened the doors and continues to serve the same menu and customers since day one. Since then two additional stores have opened in West Newton and Needham.
Sweet Tomatoes takes a different approach to pizza: traditional red sauce is replaced by chopped, uncooked tomatoes, while the oil-free dough is rolled very thin, producing a thin-crust pizza with surprising heft. You can get pizzas without tomatoes ("white") or without chees ("red"), or in other popular specialty varieties like the customer favorite pesto splash and white greek pizzas.
